From 18 November 2025 (next week!), all UK company directors and persons with significant control (PSCs) will be legally required to verify their identity before they can file confirmation statements or be appointed to new roles. This change is part of the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023 and aims to improve transparency and reduce misuse of UK companies.
Who must verify
Individual directors of UK companies
Persons with Significant Control (PSCs)
Individuals being appointed to new roles after 18 November 2025
Directors of multiple companies (verification applies to each company)
Verification requirements for corporate officers, LLP members, and limited partnerships will follow later.
Key dates and deadlines
18 November 2025: Identity verification becomes mandatory
Transition year: Directors must be verified before filing their company’s next confirmation statement
PSCs must verify within a 14-day window, depending on their registration status and whether they are also directors
What you’ll need
A Companies House personal code (issued after verification)
A verification statement for each role you hold
Matching personal details (especially date of birth) across your identity documents and Companies House records
If details don’t match, you won’t be able to link your verified identity to your company role.
How to verify
Via GOV.UK One Login
Uses online ID checks based on your device and ID type
Personal code available in your Companies House account
Via an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP) - Like us!
Accountants or solicitors supervised under UK AML regulations
ACSPs may charge a fee and will issue your personal code by email
Do not send identity documents directly to Companies House.
Filing impact
From 18 November 2025:
You cannot file a confirmation statement unless all directors are verified
You must include each director’s personal code and verification statement
